“Triple M” Movement, Mood, and Music

I hope you all had some time to rest and recharge the batteries. It soon will be time to meet up again and be active together.  As you know how hard it is to get back into a routine…but just remember that exercise not only maintains your physical activity levels but also your mental capacities…..it can lift your mood, improve your memory and reduce anxiety.

It may not always be recognised that there is a strong link between brain and body, not just maintaining good functional physical health but also good mental health.  Much work over recent years has been conducted and continues to do so in relation to understanding the role of the brain and the association/ role with physical and mental health.

One of the primary recommendations to exercise is related to most health-related issues. Regular physical activity can also reduce your risk of cognitive decline and is critical for maintaining brain health. Some brain benefits undertaking physical activity happen immediately and it has been shown to lift mood within 6- 10 minutes from commencing an exercise regime. Regular physical activity can help keep your thinking, learning, and maintaining judgment skills sharp as you age. It can also reduce your risk of depression and anxiety and help you sleep better..  Looking after brain health is also an important way to build cognitive reserve. Cognitive reserve describes the ability of the brain to withstand and compensate for changes to structure or function.

Being motivated to get started and then stay on track to achieve the goals set out will always play an important and challenge for anyone involved in any exercise program.  Some people give up as they want Immediate Big Results and often hope for and expect a “quick fix “and  find the regimes hard work and do not improve instantly. They don’t recognise or acknowledge any physical activity program usually involves a lot of work with small victories that add up over time. You cannot change what is not acknowledged” “People hope for and expect a “quick fix “. Once or twice is not enough, long term appropriate ongoing activity is essential. Successful and achievable results depend on good application, alongside practise and persistence “

There are many exercise recommendations, research evidence, choices and programs to select from.  One exercise modality does not, will not and should not suit all. Everyone needs to choose a program at the right level for them to accommodate their health/ fitness issues. The great variety of graded and appropriate exercise programs being conducted helps keep the brain and body working as well as possible as all the senses are stimulated and challenge all the systems

There is so much variety and so many benefits, there really there is no excuse to get going
